Validation of the Card Identification (CID) value, Card Verification Values (CVV and CVV2) or Card Verification Codes (CVC or CVC2) during a debit card transaction is one of the most effective methods for preventing debit card fraud. These security codes are encoded on the magnetic stripe of all Discover, Visa and MasterCard-branded debit cards.
PULSE’s CVV/CVC Checking service enables Discover PIN-based ATM, point-of-sale, Internet PIN Debit and PINless Bill Pay transactions sent to the PULSE switch for authorization to undergo validation of these codes. The service is designed to increase protection against fraud situations resulting from phishing attacks where debit card information has been stolen and the card’s PIN is compromised.
